My Body My Temple | Yoga Without Borders

September 11, 2001 is a day that marked the collective consciousness of the world.  You probably remember exactly where you were on that day as the media pumped out hours of footage of the World Trade Center and speculation on what the root cause was.  You were probably not surprised when the finger was pointed at the Middle East.  You were probably outraged at some point at actions taken by government leaders.  Maybe you felt helpless.

At the same time in a small room at Bloor and Spadina, a group of Yogis took action.  We began to meditate for peace and healing.  We named this initiative Yoga Without Borders.  10 years later, we have grown into a network of people who are dedicated to social change.   Our service to humanity has taken various forms, including working in soup kitchens, cooking for women’s shelters, and collecting socks and underwear for homeless men.

Yoga Without Borders is currently focused on the eradication of institutional violence against women and girls worldwide, permanently and in our lifetime.   Our vision is to bring together idea connectors, information exchangers and leaders in our community in order to develop strategies to end these practices.  In order to create global change we must act together.

On January 28, 2012, Yoga Without Borders is hosting the “Take Action” Summit, a free educational event at 221 Yonge Street.  For the first time, activists, Yogis, social services and academics will come together to take action on social justice issues.

Please attend this important event to connect with leaders in the community.  The day includes speakers, workshops, and opportunities to network and be seen amongst those taking a stand to end violence against women and girls around the world.  You can register here.  And visit our Facebook Page for daily updates.

This is an issue that can no longer be ignored. Join Yoga Without Borders in giving a voice to the voiceless. If you are unable to attend your letter of support is appreciated. Suggested wording for the letter is below.  Please email it to

Plans are already underwear for the next Summit, October 11, 2012, International Day of the Girl.

In gratitude,

Letter of Support – Suggested Wording

Dear Yoga Without Borders,

Women and girls around the world are subjected daily to cruelty, violence, abuse, neglect and torture.  This simply must stop.

Join Yoga Without Borders and other activists and service organizations on January 28, 2012 at the ‘Take Action’ Summit to share ideas, network, and discuss strategy and solutions.

Ignorance, silence and complacency are the enemy. Bring your friends, colleagues, and neighbors. Add your voices, your ideas and your inspiration to bring hope and positive action to women and girls around the world.

We applaud Yoga Without Borders for its efforts.
